ABOUT us
OUR MISSION
The Cosmic Current is a publication of the South Texas Astronomical Society dedicated to making astronomy and space science accessible to the Rio Grande Valley and beyond. Through journalism, visual storytelling and educational content, we cover space exploration, local research, skywatching, arts and culture, and perspectives while providing emerging writers and creatives opportunities to develop their skills in science communication.
OUR ORIGINS
The Cosmic Current began in 2025 as a physical newsletter distributed across the Rio Grande Valley. In 2026, it was transformed into a digital magazine, expanding its focus and bringing together astronomy, journalism, education and the arts. Today, The Cosmic Current publishes original stories year-round while continuing its mission of connecting our community with the universe.
EDITORIAL APPROACH
The Cosmic Current is committed to accurate, accessible and engaging science communication. Our stories combine journalism, education and creative storytelling to make astronomy and space science approachable for all audiences. We strive to represent sources fairly, distinguish reporting from perspective and provide context that helps readers better understand the universe around them.
part of stars
The Cosmic Current is the official publication of the South Texas Astronomical Society (STARS). While supported by STARS and its mission, The Cosmic Current maintains its own editorial process and publishes work from staff members, contributors and community voices.
