About the Team
The Media & Communications Team is responsible for sharing the mission and impact of the South Texas Astronomical Society (STARS) through visual storytelling, digital media and public outreach. Our team creates graphics, photographs events, produces videos, manages social media and develops communication materials that help inspire curiosity and connect our community with science.

Event reminders
Community updates

Canva is our primary graphic design platform.
Team members use Canva to create:
Social media graphics
Event flyers
Posters
Presentations
Infographics
Digital advertisements
Promotional materials
Please use the shared STARS Canva workspace whenever possible to ensure files remain accessible and branding stays consistent.

Meta Business Suite is used to manage STARS' Facebook and Instagram accounts from one platform.
We use Meta Business Suite to:
Schedule and publish social media posts
Manage Facebook and Instagram content
Monitor comments and messages
View account insights and analytics
Coordinate upcoming social media campaigns
Whenever possible, social media posts should be scheduled through Meta Business Suite rather than published directly from the mobile app.

Printful is used to create STARS merchandise and manage sales.
We use Printful to:
Design and publish merchandise
Review fulfillment orders
Create mock-ups of merchandise
Manage online store
Plan merchandise collections and lines

Approved Image Resources
When creating graphics, always use images that STARS owns or that are licensed for reuse. Never download images directly from Google Images or other websites without confirming usage rights.
Preferred Sources
STARS Photo Archive (Google Drive)
NASA Image and Video Library – Public-domain images, videos and audio from NASA missions and research.
Pexels – Free stock photography and video for commercial and non-commercial use.
Pixabay – Free photographs, illustrations and videos available under the Pixabay Content License.
Unsplash – High-quality photography available under the Unsplash License.
Always review the licensing terms for each resource and provide attribution whenever required.
Submit your work using the following methods:
Photography & Video: Upload original files to the appropriate folder in the Media & Communications Google Drive.
Graphic Design: Share your designs with the Media & Communications team through the STARS Canva.
Documents & Other Files: Upload them to the designated Google Drive folder unless instructed otherwise.
If you're unsure where a file belongs or experience any issues uploading your work, please contact a team lead for assistance.
